When we got there, Lynn pointed out to the kids that there were deer in there. Lulu was so excited. We went on in under the evergreens and Lynn decided we should wait to set up the blind and just set under the branches to try and call some in. Lynn and Lulu set up under one big branch with the gun and Bubby and I under another with the video camera. Kids both had ear muffs on, so it was interesting to keep Lulu quiet.
It didn't take long before Lynn actually got one to come in. He didn't call it in as close as he normally would have, due to the fact that Lulu was excited and was waving at the turkey and talking! Thank goodness for the wind! It only took a couple of minutes to get him in close enough to shoot. With Lulu in his lap, Lynn aimed the gun with her holding on to it and when the time was right he said, "Okay, Pull it!" She pulled the trigger and that turkey didn't know what hit him! He rolled with one shot and was down!
We got up out of the evergreen to go see it and after a lot of excitement and high fives, we went to check it out. She was pretty proud of herself. Bubby was pretty excited too.
After we got the turkey back to the trees, we decided to set up the blind to see if Bubby could get one too. We didn't sit long. Lulu couldn't sit still. She was too excited. We did see some deer before we decided to walk around and explore. We explored for a while realizing we were lucky to have been able to shoot one. There was no turkey sign anywhere around or in the road. We were pretty lucky to have one cross the field and come in where we were at!
Boys got up the next morning and tried again with no luck:-(
Big thanks to Ray and Pat Barnes for letting us stay with them and feeding us:-)
Here are the pictures and the video. (...and yes I was there, decked out in camo as well, just didn't get in any pics with me in them)
These are their Turkey Killing Faces!
She was so excite that there were deer in there already. Look at that face!
My Mighty Little Hunters! So cute!
She was looking at all the interesting things under the evergreen. She could have cared less about pictures.
One Proud Daddy!
The Big Kill
The next day on the way home we stopped to say hi to G-ma and G-pa ( great grandparents). G-ma was gone, but G-pa was there and was excited for Lulu. He turned 90 this year. Lookin' good G-pa! He gave the kids scooter rides before we left.
